With the CO-BOLT® system, the superstructure is no longer welded but simply assembled and bolted together. The system is made of extruded aluminum profiles with formed channels, which are connected with gussets and clamping plates. The self-supporting structure of the carriage body consists of two large main profiles, the cantrail and the sidewall profile, which are connected with a series of smaller profiles. The entire upper part of the vehicle body is built with these profiles and does not require any additional planking. In the event of damage, the simple side flaps, covering the whole length of the lower part of the vehicle body, can be easily exchanged. The front and rear sections are made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester. The two-component adhesive used on the bolts ensures secure and solid connections and prevent loosening by vibration. In case of repair, however, the bolts are still separable even after many years.
The experience gathered in over 25 years, extended tests and more than 10,000 buses built with CO-BOLT® construction worldwide, prove the unique qualities of this system. (Crash tests by the US Department of Transportation, DoT, the ECE 66 rollover test as well as multiple additional fatigue experiments and crash tests were carried out). |
